A Short Story: Mama

Veteran Participant May

For you new folks, let me start by introducing myself, I am Gladys Potz.

You can call me Cracked Potz, if you wish.

Most everybody in Strangerville does.

Doesn’t bother me anymore.

I hear tell that some of you want to know a bit more about me.

Well, come on in.

I always have time for tea and chats.

I will put the kettle on and we can sit a spell while I unravel a yarn or two about my mama!

It is May and like lots of you folks out there, my mind goes to my mama.

She was no ordinary mama.

NO NO, not my Mama.

I don’t know much about Mama and Daddy before I came along.

Mama never really talked about it.

I know they were not from ’round these parts.

She and daddy came to Strangerville because daddy had a new job out at the Lab.

He was a phytologist (plant scientist).

Soon after their arrival, I came along.

Mama always teased, “We found you in a pumpkin patch.

I knew the moment I saw you that I would love you always and forever!

You were our special gift.”

One day when I was only two, a big light came and took my daddy away.

Mama cried for a long time.

I know she missed daddy terribly.

Me too!

His smiling eyes is all I remember about daddy.

On many summer nights, Mama and I would lie in the grass and look at the stars.

She knew them all so well, taught me all their names.

We would search the sky trying to find daddy up there.

Tears would well up in her eyes as she told me stories about our little family in the days before he was gone from us.

I know from her tales that he loved us very much.

It was not easy raising a child alone.

Mama was my hero!

I always wanted to be JUST like her!

The summer after my graduation, I married my darling highschool sweetheart, Harold Potz.

We moved into the Dusty Gulch Mobile Home Park, right near to her house, so we could take care of her.

One night, on his way home from work Harold said he saw a bright light out near Mama’s house.

We hurried over, only to find she was gone.

I never saw her again.

I always hope she and daddy are somewhere out there, together and that she is happy in back his arms.

As for me, I am still a little sad and miss her a lot.

But I do know that where ever she is, she loves me always and forever!

  1. Aw…this was such a sweet, sad story. Those darn aliens abducting Sims’ parents everywhere – first Bella Goth and now Gladys’ parents! The screenshots are adorable as well. 🙂

  2. So lovely to have Gladys back 🙂 and her Mom sounds wonderful! It’s always the Aliens that did it! 😉
Thank you for using my build! I always love to see who created the builds in your stories, and imagine my surprise to see my name there, Lol 😁😘

  3. Oh what a wonderful story. It’s so wonderful to have Gladys back and to find out how she came into the world. Such a fun and uplifting story (pun there! lol) even though it was also sad that her parents had to return to their home planet. Great story.

    1. I love the pun ❤ That is funny and as the case with good puns quite true.

I am glad to see someone GOT it .. I really needed an author's note .. because this is done from Gladys' perspective I left out some things or left it to the imagination and it did nt really work well LOL

  4. I had a feeling aliens might be involved when she described her mom as not ordinary and not from around these parts. The ending shot was really sweet!
